Stanley House B&B is a designated heritage building. It was built in 1908 as the home for the District Superintendent of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Stanley House was built on the hill overlooking the train station and symbolically was the the gateway to the Superintendent's area of responsibility.

In 1900 the Canadian Pacific Railway demonstrated their confidence in Nelson's future by making it the site of one of their largest and most picturesque Swiss Alpine style railway stations.
